Solutions Bulletin Describes RACO Central Watchdog System System for Automatic Verification of Telephone Line and Remote Alarm Autodialer Operation

Emeryville, Calif., May 26, 1999 RACO Manufacturing & Engineering Company of Emeryville, California, today announced the availability of their new Communications Solutions Bulletin describing their Central Watchdog System for automatic verification of telephone line integrity and the proper operation of up to 32 remote RACO Verbatim alarm autodialers.

Interruptions in telephone service as a result of storms, fires, and other uncontrollable disasters can result in loss of critical alarm autodialing capability. To monitor against possible disruptions in telephone service, as well as a malfunction of the autodialer itself, the RACO Central Watchdog System provides a means of continuously checking for proper system operation.

To verify operation, remote autodialers place "reporting in" telephone calls to the Central Watchdog System at regular intervals. If a remote unit fails to report in as programmed, the Central Watchdog System will start an alarm autodialing sequence to supervisory personnel, calling until it gets an answer. When a person on the phone list answers and acknowledges the call, the Central Watchdog System identifies the site that has failed to report in.

Because the Central Watchdog System is expandable, it can handle up to 32 remote autodialers. The "reporting in" interval is selectable by the user. Supervisory personnel can call the Watchdog System or any remote autodialer at any time from any touch-tone phone to manually verify system operation, check status, or change programming.

Reporting to the Central Watchdog System is independent of the standard monitoring, reporting, and controlling functions programmed into each remote autodialer. All of the remote units are capable of performing a conventional autodialing sequence if an alarm condition occurs at their sites.
